Alexa Demie's Age refers to a series of jokes and memes about the inscrutability of actor Alexa Demie's birthdate. As a result, many online joked that she is immortal, editing images from the distant past to include her.

Origin

According to IMDB,^[1] Alexa Demie was born on December 11th, 1994, making her 29 in September 2020 when the meme went viral on Twitter. Despite this, on September 19th, 2020, Twitter^[2] user @fuckethn tweeted several photos of Demie in four distinct time periods through the 2000s. They captioned the post, "She has lived a thousand lives." The tweet received more than 163,000 likes and 17,000 retweets in less than one week (shown below).

Spread

Over the course of the following week, fans of Demie's on Twitter began posting images of Demie edited into images from the past (example below, left and center). One of the most popular version was posted on September 20th by Twitter^[3] user @Cinnam0nT0stle in which Demie appears in a photo with political philosopher Karl Marx. The post received more than 2,400 likes and 260 retweets in less than one week (shown below, right).

On September 21st, Twitter user @ninjacole97 tweeted a video of Kylie Jenner walking out of a store. They captioned the video, "alexa demie leaving jesus’ crucifixion in 30 AD." Within one week, the post received more than 22,000 likes and 3,300 retweets (shown below).

Several media outlets covered the meme, including Paper,^[4] Jezebel^[5] and more. On September 23rd, Jezebel published the article "How Old Is She? And Other Facts About Alexa Demie." In the article, the writer describes the controversy, reporting that numerous interviews with the actor states her age between 24 and 25. They write:

Back in 2019, similar tweets surfaced when outlets reported that Demie, who plays Maddy Perez on Euphoria, was 24. The age was also cited in interviews with Demie herself. Vulture, in September 2019, described Demie as being the 24-year-old “smizing scene stealer on Euphoria.” An InStyle interview from that same year also claimed Demie was “almost 25,” something she didn’t contest to the interviewer. Not to put too fine a point on this--countless other interviews during the Euphoria press tour also cite 24 as being Demie’s age.

Part of the fervor surrounding the tweet was a re-surfaced alumni list from John Marshall High School’s graduating class of 2008, which had Alexa Demie’s name on it. It would mean, by most estimates, that she is either 30, or very close to it.
