A sound featuring the dialogue was posted to TikTok in early 2022 and was used as a lip dub audio on the platform. The dialogue is delivered by Euphoria character Maddy Perez, who is reacting to character Lexi Howard's school play. The catchphrase is also often quoted in memes on Twitter and Instagram.

Origin

On February 13th, 2022, the official YouTube^[1] account for Euphoria posted a promo for the seventh episode of their second season, where the character Maddy Perez, played by Alexa Demie, can be heard delivering the line, "Wait. Is this fucking play about us?" at the 0:49 timestamp.

Spread

In late February 2022, various TikTokers began using the sound for "lip dub" style videos where they mouth the dialogue as the audio plays over the video. TikToker^[2] @dereksheeran posted one such video on February 21st, 2022, gathering 3.5 million plays and 800,000 likes in a year (seen below, left). On February 22nd, 2022, TikToker^[3] @figsnsquash posted a video using the audio as well, gathering over 3.2 million plays and 700,000 likes in a year (seen below, right).

On February 23rd, 2022, TikToker^[4] @tanamongeaulol posted a video using the audio clip, gathering over 11 million plays and 1.8 million likes in a year (seen below, left). On February 24th, TikToker^[5] @willdonis posted a video using the audio clip, gathering over 5 million plays and 590,000 likes in a year (seen below, right).
