Alternative Avengers: Endgame Endings refer to fan-written alternative endings for 2019 Marvel superhero film Avengers: Endgame. Memes following the format usually reference the 14 million potential futures envisioned by the character Doctor Strange in the 2018 superhero film Avengers: Infinity War.

Origin

On April 27th, 2018, Marvel superhero film Avengers: Infinity War premiered.^[1] In one scene of the film, character Dr. Strange explains that he looked into the future in search for a potential win scenario for the main group of characters, and only found one favorable outcome out of over 14 million.

Spread

Following the leak of 2019 superhero film Avengers: Endgame, before April 26th, 2019, an unknown user created a text post describing a humorous alternative ending of the film in which Thanos challenges the Avengers to a penis measuring contest. On April 26th, 2019, Redditor gdawg311 posted the text to /r/copypasta subreddit where it gained over 470 upvotes in three weeks.^[2]

At the end of Endgame, Thanos agrees to undo everything he's done if the Avengers can beat him in a penis measuring contest, but none of the avengers even come close. Even the Hulk is shorter than Thanos by a noticeable amount, and their girth isn't even comparable. That's when, at the last moment, Captain Marvel pulls down her pants and unleashes the phattest hawg the universe has ever seen. Shamed by her immense size, Thanos undoes all that he has done, and then commits Japanese ritual suicide. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Area 51.

On May 11th, 2019, Redditor MrPyroTek created a subreddit /r/TheOther14Mil for the purpose of submitting theories on what other 14 million futures seen by Dr. Strange could have been.^[3] The subreddit gained over 12,300 members within five days. In the following days, multiple notable posts containing text and image depictions of alternative Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War endings were submitted to the subreddit (examples shown below).

On May 14th, 2019, Redditor Plazm0z reposted his earlier post to /r/TheOther14Mil which used artwork by Instagram artist Elleyart to /r/thanosdidnothingwrong subreddit, where it gained over 33,900 upvotes (shown below).^[4]

In the following days, the format gained further spread in /r/thanosdidnothingwrong and other subreddits.
