In the following months, the song became a viral subject of parodies and remixes, and. On October 18th, 2024, the music video for "APT.," a pop rock song by K-pop singer Rosé and American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars premiered on YouTube.[1] The video (shown below) accumulated over 855 million views in two and a half months.

The song was inspired by the South Korean drinking game "Apartment," which Rosé said was her favorite party ice-breaker.[2] "Apt." is short for "Apartment" and is chanted while the game is played.[3]

For example, on October 29th, 2024, YouTuber[4] 그리네모 posted an animated version of the video that accumulated over 15 million views in two months. On October 31st, 2024, YouTube[5] user 화성인 릴도지 uploaded a North Korea parody version of the song. The video garnered over 20 million views in two months (shown below).

On November 12th, 2024, YouTuber[6] Bongo Cat posted a Bongo Cat cover of the song that received over 14 million views in two months (shown below).

More parodies, remixes and covers of the song were uploaded to YouTube in late 2024 and early 2025.

On January 10th, 2025, X[11] user @emysbill posted a screenshot showing the view count of the song on YouTube, comparing it to "Gangnam Style", a viral sensation of the early 2010s. The post (shown below) sparked a discourse on X / Twitter as users discussed the validity of the statement.

Controversies

On October 28th, 2024, the Korean news website Koreaboo[7] published an article incorrectly claiming that the Malaysian Ministry of Health raised concerns over the song due to it "normalizing behavior that conflicts with Eastern cultural values." Later on October 28th, the Malaysian Ministry responded[8] that it hadn't made any statements regarding the song, with Koreaboo clarifying that they had mistakenly quoted a page not associated with the ministry.

KKMalaysia @KKMPutrajaya The Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia wishes to clarify that any statements regarding this article attributed to MOH have not been issued or authorized by the Government of Malaysia. ... In this regard, we would like to highlight that the posting was made by an entity which is not linked to the Ministry in any form whatsoever. Please be cautious of unverified information circulating online, as it can lead to confusion and misinformation among the members of the public. On December 30th, the music news page @IndoPopBase reported on X[10] that the song was removed from Spotify after receiving a plagiarism strike.
