Are You Crying, My Führer? is a reaction image taken from the 2015 German comedy film Er Ist Wieder Da ("Look Who's Back"), directed by David Wnendt and starring Oliver Masucci as Adolf Hitler. [1] In 2017, the image became used primarily on Reddit as a reaction image for situations that might make Adolf Hitler cry.
Origin
On October 8, 2015, Er Ist Wieder Da premiered in Germany. [1] The film features a scene in which Hitler (Oliver Masucci) and another character named Krömeier (Franziska Wulf) browse the internet. Krömeier asks Hitler "Are you crying, my führer ?" to which Hitler responds "No" while wiping a tear from his face. The scene was uploaded to YouTube on August 12, 2017, by YouTuber A. Balkom, and garnered nearly 270,000 views and 5,000 likes in three years.

On July 6, 2016, Redditor alexmikli posted a screencap of the scene to r/meirl[2] (shown below, left). The post received 80 points (92% upvoted) in four years. On July 10, 2017, ShitpostBot 5000 user lolero977[3] submitted an image macro template using the scene (shown below, right). The submission received 20 upvotes in three years.
On July 13, 2018, Redditor DoctorMcFaggot posted the image in reaction to another image from one of Jimmy Kimmel's “Movie: The Movie” sketches to r/dankmemes[4] (shown below). The post garnered over 10,200 points (97% upvoted) in two years.
