Beautiful Cat With Homophobia refers to a series of image macros in which a photo of a cat is shown with heterochromia (a condition when an animal has two different colored eyes), while the caption mistakenly describes the cat as having "homophobia." The caption was initially used primarily to show off either real or fictionalized cats that the original poster found cute, but later devolved into using the catchphrase while showing a picture of something else unrelated, such as an anime character or K-pop Idol.

Origin

On April 3rd, 2021, Reddit user @NotWurrmm^[1] posted a picture of a white cat, with one blue eye and one yellow eye, captioning the image, "A cat with homophobia in its eyes," with a heart emoji. This phrase, and the accompanying heart, wouldn't see usage for another two years, when it was suddenly used by X user @lovesickdoe^[2] to describe a cat they found outside that had one orange eye and one blue eye. This time, however, the post received over 10.8 million views and 500,000 likes in 20 days (shown below, left and right).

Spread

The phrase quickly began to spread after its viral usage in June 2024. On June 6th, 2024, X user @rodd_serling^[3] uploaded a video of two white ragdoll cats that displayed heterochromia with both having a right green eye and a blue left eye. In the video, the cats can be seen tracking an off-screen toy, showcasing their eye colors, earning nearly 230 likes in three weeks (shown below).

The trend continued to expand but stopped being used about cats as it spread online. On June 21st, 2024, X user @alysgoth^[4] used the phrase while posting an image of Aemond Targaryen from the Game of Thrones prequel series House Of the Dragon. The picture, a close-up of Aemond's face, was captioned similarly by claiming he had homophobia while showing that his right eye is blue, while the left eye is entirely different (shown below).
