Variations on this theme appeared over the following two years as New Year's Eve approached (shown below).

While the posts continued in earnest, the image was also commonly deep fried and used in various shitposts. For example, on September 22nd, 2017, Twitter user @papacone_^[2] uploaded a version which replaced the text with "Before the world ends tomorrow," referring to a failed doomsday prophecy. The tweet gained over 50 retweets and 80 likes (shown below, left). On December 28th, 2017, Tumblr user comcastkills^[3] uploaded a variation asking "Does anybody wanna establish socialism?", gaining over 14,000 notes (shown below, right).
