"Planet of the Bass," also known as "Planet of the Bass" by DJ Crazy Times & Ms. Biljana Electronica, "Planet of the Bass" by Kyle Gordon or Every European Dance Song in the 1990s, is a viral video and parody electronic dance music (EDM) song originally posted by content creator Kyle Gordon on his TikTok account @kylegordonisgreat in mid-2023, featuring Audrey Trullinger as Ms. Biljana Electronica. The video also went viral on Twitter where users debated whether or not it was good. Specific lyrics from the song were inserted into memes on Tumblr, most notably the lyrics, "Life, it never die" and "Women Are My Favorite Guy," among others. The man and woman in the video also gained fan art following its virality. In mid-August 2023, a full "Planet of The Bass" music video was then released.

Origin

On July 28th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @kylegordonisgreat posted a video that had text overlay reading, "Every European Dance Song in the 1990s." The video was a parody music video for the imaginary Euro-pop duo DJ Crazy Times & Ms. Biljana Electronica (played by TikToker Audrey Trullinger) and their song "Planet of the Bass." The video gained roughly 3.5 million plays and 597,600 likes in four days (shown below). The TikToker, Kyle Gordon, also posted the video to Twitter^[2] (@kylegordon101) on July 28th, gaining roughly 186,100 likes in four days.

Spread

The video and song quickly gained eminence on both TikTok and Twitter soon after it went viral on both platforms. Various viral quote retweets spread the video across Twitter. For instance, on July 28th, 2023, Twitter^[3] user @muddaub tweeted, "I’ll never stop saying 'women are my favorite guy,'" gaining over 780 likes in four days (shown below, left). On July 30th, Twitter^[4] user @whyangelinawhy proclaimed in a QRT, "This is not just good, it is exquisitely good. Transcendent parody in the sense that it is also really fun and likable," gaining roughly 102,700 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Fan art of DJ Crazy Times and Ms. Biljana Electronica started to surface in the same timeframe. The earliest known was posted by Twitter^[5] user @ShreddedCardig1 on July 30th, gaining roughly 20,500 likes in two days (shown below, left). On July 31st, Twitter^[6] user @sillysymbol tweeted fan art, gaining roughly 11,200 likes in one day (shown below, right).

Memes also surfaced on Tumblr during the same timeframe. For instance, on July 30th, 2023, Tumblr^[7] user leolaroot posted "can you take my white ass to the planet of the bass," gaining roughly 18,800 notes in two days. Then, later on July 30th, Tumblr^[8] user yaaaaah added a cut out of DJ Crazy Times (a.k.a. Kyle Gordon), gaining roughly 18,900 notes in two days (shown below, left). Also that same day, Tumblr^[9] user yurisorcerer posted a meme with lyrics from "Planet of the Bass," gaining roughly 10,900 notes in two days (shown below, right).

The aforementioned Tumblr posts gained viral reposts on Twitter^[10][11] soon after and the internet humor site Ebaum's World^[16][17][18] published several articles about the song.

"Planet Of The Bass" In Croatia

On August 3rd, 2023, Kyle Gordon posted a variant video to Twitter^[12] and TikTok^[13] that was "Filmed in Zagreb, Croatia." The video featured the same song and lyrics, however, it featured a different woman who wasn't the original Ms. Biljana Electronica. On TikTok,^[13] it gained roughly 90,300 plays and 11,300 likes in three hours. On Twitter,^[12] it gained roughly 7 million views and 12,400 likes in the same timeframe (shown below).

In the replies and quote retweets, many users started to joke and meme about the lack of the original Ms. Biljana Electronica. For instance, on August 3rd, Twitter^[14] user @Stop_Hammerzeit captioned Aaron Paul Screaming with "WHERE IS SHE??" gaining over 11,000 likes in three hours (shown below, left). Also on August 3rd, Twitter^[15] user @elivalley used the Hello, Human Resources?! format, gaining roughly 10,000 likes in the same timeframe (shown below, right).

Music Video

On August 15th, 2023, the music video for "Planet of the Bass" premiered, garnering over 570,000 views on YouTube^[19] in 18 hours. In the video, Kyle Gordon as DJ Crazy Times and Audrey Trullinger as Ms. Biljana Electronica perform the full version of the song. In the video, Electronic is loaded onto an alien ship, where she dances with the aliens before choosing to become a human, while DJ Crazy Times is being beamed up to the ship.

In the following hours, multiple posts about the video and memes based on it went viral on X. For example, on August 15th, X^[20] user @arvalis made a post that received over 3,600 reposts and 53,000 likes in one day (shown below, left). Later that day, user @DaveOshry posted a Deus Ex edit of Kyle Gordon in the video, with the post gaining over 2,000 reposts and 13,700 likes in one day (shown below, right).
