About

Brazilian Woman Wheeling Corpse Into Bank Video, also known as Tio Paulo No Banco, refers to a viral video in which a Brazilian woman took a dead body in a wheelchair to try to withdraw a R$17.000 ($3,200 USD) loan at a bank branch in Bangu, Rio de Janeiro. A bank employee recorded a video showing the woman constantly trying to keep the man's head straight, using her hand and talking to the supposed relative who was unresponsive. The woman was later arrested by local police and identified as Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes, claiming to be a relative of the dead man. The clip went viral on the internet in April 2024, sparking a widespread debate, several memes and parodies recreating the scene of the woman with the old man's body in the bank.

Origin

On April 16th, 2024, the Brazilian news website G1 shared on Instagram[1] a blurred video of a woman (later identified as Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes) taking a dead body in a wheelchair to try to take out a loan of R$17.000 (3,200 USD) at a bank branch in Bangu, Rio de Janeiro. In the video, a bank employee was suspicious of the woman's behavior and called the police. An ambulance went to the scene and found that the man, identified as 68-year-old Paulo Roberto Braga, had been dead for a few hours. The video (shown below) amassed 257,000 likes in a day.

"Uncle, are you listening? You need to sign. If you don't sign, there's no way. I can’t sign for you, I’ll do what I can do."

Érika de Souza was then arrested on the same day, saying that her routine was to take care of her weak uncle. The police are investigating whether she is related to him.[2]
