About
Breakfast Cars, also known as Beep, Beep! Breakfast Cars!, is a TikTok posted in mid-2022 showing breakfast foods like eggs, sausage and hash browns made to look like cars rolling back and forth on a cutting board. The viral video inspired a viral debate because a TikToker named Drew Hamlett (@hamlettsmash) criticized the video for being an intensely 'white people' thing to do. Many disagreed with him because they found the video wholesome and made content supporting the "Breakfast Cars" video instead.
Origin
On July 7th, 2022, TikToker[1] eightwaysgames posted a video that showed their "family brunch" consisting of eggs on top of hash browns and then sausages to resemble cars. In the video, they say and repeat, "Beep, beep! Breakfast cars!" Over the course of six days, the video received roughly 1.6 million plays and 186,600 likes (shown below).

Spread
As the original "Breakfast Cars" TikTok accumulated engagement going into the days following its upload, users on the app started to post stitches and Duets expressing their humorous need for breakfast cars in their lives. For instance, on July 8th, 2022, verified TikToker[2] mrhamilton posted a stitch about wanting breakfast cars that received roughly 5.1 million plays and 610,700 likes in five days (shown below, left).
However, on July 8th, 2022, TikToker[3] hamlettsmash posted a stitch that had an opposing reaction, ultimately claiming that the breakfast cars were cringe due to it being "white shit" that was "egregious." Due to hamlettsmash's TikTok,[3] the content surrounding the breakfast cars video became reactionary, as in, many TikTokers found hamlettsmash's video aggressive to the otherwise wholesome family content. For instance, on July 10th, 2022, TikToker[4] thebigpimpinn posted a video that had a caption reading, "why r ppl hating on FAMILY n happiness," earning roughly 2.1 million plays and 459,900 likes in three days (shown below, left).
Additionally, many TikTokers started making their own breakfast cars and posting videos of them to show solidarity with the original "Breakfast Cars" video. On July 12th, 2022, TikToker[5] caliswrld did just this in a video that received roughly 180,100 plays and 21,100 likes in one day (shown below, right).
