Brendan Fraser's Bad Pun Reaction, otherwise known as You're Gonna Get Shot, is an exploitable image macro taken from a scene in the 2001 film The Mummy Returns. The format follows a pilot telling Fraser a bad joke or pun, and Fraser taking out his gun to shoot the pilot in retaliation for the joke. The meme originated in fan communities dedicated to Fraser's Mummy films.

Origin

The meme uses images originally from a scene in The Mummy Returns, released on May 4th, 2001, where Rick O'Connell (played by Brendan Fraser) hires a pilot who refuses at first out of fear he will be shot. When he reveals he will be flying a blimp rather than a plane, Fraser threatens to shoot him.

The current format of the meme was created by an unknown user in the Facebook^[1] group "Memehotep's Mummy Memes" sometime in February 2021, though this is unconfirmed. The group is currently suspended, but the earliest surviving example of the meme (seen below) was posted publicly on March 1st, 2021, by Memehotep's Mummy Meme Page, a public account posting images from the group.

The meme found success outside communities devoted to The Mummy in the weeks following its creation. On March 22nd, 2021, Imgur user WillItBeAlrightInTheEnd uploaded an example of the meme (below) that received more than 3,500 upvotes over six months.^[2]

On April 2nd, 2021, an example of the meme (below) reposted to r/memes by Reddit user DhruvBhasin12 received more than 42,000 upvotes over one month.^[3]

The meme remained consistently popular in Mummy fan groups and meme pages. Memehotep's Mummy Meme Page publicly posted over 30 examples of the meme, each with hundreds of likes, in the 6 months following the template's creation.^[4]
