The earliest known post using the catchphrase "Can't let gang know I fw this" was uploaded on March 30th, 2024, by TikTok[1] user @taco_fr1. In the video, the macro is accompanied by the picture of a black man sitting on a staircase listening to Lemon Demon's "Fine" song (shown below), which amassed more than 130,000 plays and 15,000 likes in three months.

Parodies and memes using the "Can't let gang know I fw this" catchphrase were posted on TikTok throughout April 2024. For example, on April 3rd, 2024, TikTok[2] user @weeniehutjrs45 uploaded a picture of two black men secretly listening to NewJeans' "ETA" song (seen below, left), which garnered over 518,000 plays and 119,000 likes in two months.
Also in April 2024, the phrase "Gotta let gang know I fw this" was used as a reverse response to the initial meme, in which people shared content they want their friends to know they are fond of.
For example, on April 15th, TikTok[3] user @xion90k.jpg posted Jack Johnson's "Upside Down" music video accompanied by the macro "Gotta let gang know I fw this" (seen below, right), which received roughly 3.4 million plays and 595,000 likes in two months.
