About

Tanvir Sultan, MBA is a satirical Facebook profile posing as a grindset-minded business executive. Posts on the profile will be written in the style of a CEO with an offbeat point of view, though the stories often involve Sultan firing employees for basic requests and needs. The profile went viral in October of 2023 after one of its posts was taken at face value by a wide swath of Twitter users.

History

While it's unclear the precise date the Tanvir Sultan, MBA[1] account launched, but the account's profile picture (shown below) was uploaded on September 7th, 2023. It is the earliest post from the account.

Over the following weeks, Sultan posted anecdotes with the premise of instilling wisdom for business, though many of these stories involved treating employees poorly. For example, on September 20th, he posted his opinion that company meetings should last over an hour and involve everyone in the company[2] (shown below, left). On October 26th, he posted a story about offering an employee who had been given an offer from another company a raise, then firing that employee in six months for considering another job offer[3] (shown below, right).

Tanvir Sultan, MBA September 20. : Personally, I prefer not to attend meetings if there are fewer than eight participants. ... I've noticed a trend these days of people trying to have fewer, especially shorter meetings. I believe this is a misconception. Meetings should ideally last for a minimum of one hour. This duration allows for a deeper understanding of the essentials, and involving more participants can enrich discussions. From interns to board members, everyone should have the opportunity to attend meetings and share their thoughts.
Tanvir Sultan, MBA 5 hours ago. Whenever bigger companies try to poach my top talent, I always give them a higher offer. In most cases, the employee stays back even though I take a few months to implement the raise. Once six months have passed and the headhunting company has filled the role, I fire the employee. You are not the only one who can be disloyal.

Of note, the personal website he has listed, tanvirsultan.com,[4] goes to a page where a supposed person Sultan had hired to make him a website named Iqbal was not paid, and created an insulting webpage in protest (shown below).

Under Destruction Well, guess what? Bossman decided not to cough up my last month's paycheck and then gave me the boot, so he can kiss that website goodbye! from Iqbal

Online Presence

Within two months of launching, Tanvir Sultan MBA gained over 14,000 likes and 19,000 followers.[1] On October 25th, 2023, one of his posts, where Sultan claimed to have fired an employee who told him he and his partner were about to have a baby (shown below), was reposted to Twitter by @VCBrags,[5] gaining over 370 retweets and 3,300 likes in one day, as well as @RoshanPateI,[6] gaining over 640 retweets and 4,300 likes in one day.

Tanvir Sultan, MBA 10 hours ago Today one of my employees asked for a raise because he will be a father. I instantly fired him on the spot. It's simple. Do you raise capital when your business is failing? Do you expand and hire new employees when you are at a loss? After working for me for so many years he didn't learn which one is an asset, which one is a liability. If you are earning only 27,000 taka per month, you should at the very least inform your boss on your family planning. I hired you for work, not to provide seed funds for your seed. Your salary is a clear indication of your contribution to society. If it is so low, how can you even think about reproduction? You're simply compounding your failures.

The post stunned many on social media who did not know Tanvir Sultan MBA was a satirical account (examples shown below).

Abhishek Bhalerao @mumbaiactor_ People like Tanvir Sultan are wasting precious oxygen & natural resources of our planet by existing on it. His MBA is a waste. Imagine if his father's/mother's boss would have thought like this. Tanvir Sultan, MBA 10 hours ago Today one of my employees asked for a raise because he will be a father.
