On June 27th, 2023, TikToker bean_posts^[1] uploaded a video in which her cat attacks her arm, causing her to ask "Why are you doing this?" The cat then slowly lets the arm go and walks off. The video gained over 14 million likes in three months (shown below).

Spread

The video quickly inspired Duets on TikTok, as users offered humorous voiceovers imagining what the cat was thinking as he let go of its owner's arm. On July 4th, 2023, TikToker baldwinvoices^[2] monologued as the cat, gaining over 1.1 million views in three months (shown below, left). On June 29th, user @justoriginal^[3] did the same, gaining over 202,000 views in the same time frame (shown below, right).

On August 7th, TikToker solomonmusic posted a duet in which they played sad music over the cat's dramatic reaction, gaining over 2.4 million views in nearly two months (shown below, left). On September 4th, @baldwinvoices dubbed over that video, gaining an additional 70,000 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).
