"Cat Standing In Front Of Girl's Face" AI Art Redraw is a redraw meme format and trend based on an AI-generated painting of a red-headed girl wearing a polka-dot patterned shirt and a closeup of her face with a black cat's yellow eye covering her left eye. The image was posted to X / Twitter in early July 2024 by Roger Haus and became the subject of redraws that month, largely as a response to and protest of AI-generated art and to celebrate artwork made by real artists.

Origin

On July 2nd, 2024, X^[1] user @RogerHaus, a user who regularly posts AI-generated artworks, posted a piece of AI art depicting a black cat with yellow eyes standing in front of a red-headed girl with blue eyes in a polka-dot patterned shirt's face, covering her left eye with its eye, garnering over 146,000 likes and 15,000 reposts in a week (shown below).

The artwork became the subject of redraws over the following days, with many redrawing the work as a protest to AI-generated artworks, attempting to prove that human-made art is better than AI-generated art. Some artists redrew the art exactly as it appears, while others redrew it with new characters.

For example, on July 4th, 2024, X^[2] user @hachimitsx posted a redraw, writing, "fvck IA 🖕🖕🖕," garnering over 82,000 likes in a week (shown below, left). On the same day, X^[3] user @brunofobia posted a redraw that garnered over 157,000 likes, writing, "SUPPORT REAL ARTISTS 🖕🖕🖕" (shown below, center). On July 5th, X^[4] user @Dokinyy posted a redraw with a similar caption, garnering over 197,000 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right).

On July 6th, X^[5] user @guiol_ posted a redraw depicting the girl as Coraline from the movie Coraline, garnering over 400,000 likes in five days (shown below, left). On July 7th, X^[6] user @glouwinn posted a redraw depicting the woman as Muriel Bagge and the cat as Courage the Cowardly Dog, garnering over 162,000 likes in four days (shown below, right).

On July 9th, 2024, X^[7] user @M4rsArt posted a redraw depicting the subjects as Shrek and Puss In Boots, garnering over 118,000 likes in two days (shown below, left). On July 10th, X^[8] user @mossacannibalis posted a version depicting the subjects as Cobson and Chudjak, garnering over 50,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).
