About
Chris Redfield is a playable character and one of the main protagonists of the Resident Evil series, debuting in the first Resident Evil game and being one of the main protagonists in some of the subsequent games. While praised for his iconic connection to the popular series, the character has also been mocked online for his over-the-top design in some games and cartoonish actions, such as punching a boulder in Resident Evil 5.
Origin
Chris Redfield was one of the main protagonists of Resident Evil for the Playstation, which debuted on March 22nd, 1996.[1] He was one of the main protagonists of the game, alongside Jill Valentine (Chris gameplay shown below).
Spread
Chris starred in spinoff games Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles before returning to the main series in Resident Evil 5, where he starred alongside Sheva Alomar. His appearance in this game led to jokes online, as he was given a redesign that made him very muscular. Several publications joked that it appeared as though Chris had taken steroids to achieve his appearance.[2][3] Of note, in that game, Chris punches a boulder (shown below). The scene became one of the most well known and joked about in the series.[4]
Redfield also starred in Resident Evil: Revelations and Resident Evil 6. He has a cameo appearance in Resident Evil 7 and appears in a DLC campaign mission. Players have hacked Resident Evil 2 Remake to discover that the same Chris model from Resident Evil 7 is in the game and it is possible to play as him with some modding.[5]
In the live-action film Resident Evil: Vendetta Chris is played by Wentworth Miller (shown below).
Chrisposting
Chrisposting refers to parodies about Chris desperately wanting Leon Kennedy to marry Chris' sister, Claire Redfield. Following the release of the Resident Evil 2 remake in January 2019, fans quickly noticed Claire's flirting with Leon, which in the week following led to jokes on 4chan about Chris wanting Leon to impregnate Claire.
