Club Penguin Dance refers to a viral dance based on the 2005 game Club Penguin. The dance originated on January 15th, 2009 as a dance from the Night Club area of the game. The dance went popular during April 2019 and November 2020 which people are doing the dance in real life or replacing the penguin with different characters.

Origin

The Club Penguin dance was released in 2009 as a dance from the nightclub map. On December 13th, 2009, YouTuber [1] Ozzy614cp posted a video of him and other people doing the dance on the nightclub map while "Blood on the Dance Floor" by Michael Jackson played in the background. The video reached 2,300 views in 12 years (shown below).

Spread

In April of 2019, some YouTubers began making videos regarding the dance, doing it in real life or replacing the penguin with different video game characters. For example, YouTuber Jaynautic posted a video of himself doing the club penguin dance that gained over 6.3 million views (shown below, left). On May 10th, YouTuber Light posted Isabelle from Animal Crossing doing the club penguin dance, gaining over 11,900 views (shown below, right).


On November 8th, 2020, Jaiden Animations [2] posted an animation titled "I tried to beat Minecraft with CallMeCarson!" in which she tries to beat Minecraft with CallMeCarson on the 12:15 mark she does the club penguin dance. The animation has since been deleted (reupload shown below), but inspired several video parodies.

On November 18th, Lessons In Meme Culture uploaded a video discussing the popularity of Jaiden Animations doing the dance, gaining over 1.1 million views (shown below).
