About
Cooked, also known as Getting Cooked, is a slang term used in a manner similar to the term roasted. The word is typically used to describe someone getting mocked or insulted, as well as something being bad or disappointing. A prevalent catchphrase using the term was uttered by boxer Adrian Broner when he said "I ain't gon' lie, I'm getting cooked" in 2019. The term grew in virality online in the late 2010s as it spread on social media. "Cooked" also means to "get high" on marijuana in some contexts.
Origin
Early colloquial uses of the phrase "getting cooked" can be traced as far back as the year 2009, with several X users using the expression "getting cooked" in order to refer to sports matches and losses.[1][2] An Urban Dictionary definition posted on December 2nd, 2016, by user tvdropper defined the word "cooked" as "a way of describing a scenario, person or object in an extremely negative way" (seen below).[3]
