¿Cuál Es El Mejor Whisky Del Mundo? or Johnny Walker Blue Label Whisky refers to a memorable reply by Argentine football manager Alfio "Coco" Basile spoken during an interview with Marcelo Palacios on the Marca y Presión show by TyC Sports. The quote became a viral TikTok audio on July 2023, inspiring comedy skits and parody videos.

Origin

On May 12th, 2011, Marcelo Palacios interviewed Alfio "Coco" Basile on the Argentine show Marca y Presión, broadcasted by TyC Sports, a national sports TV channel.^[1] Basile is a former association football player and manager. At one point, Palacios starts inquiring Basile about his attitudes towards tobacco and alcohol. Then, the topic of which whisky the interviewee considers the best comes up. Basile replies:

¿El mejor del mundo? El Blue Label de Johnnie Walker. […] Un Johnnie Walker Etiqueta Negra lo tomo, pero cuando es algo especial, tomo un Blue Label. Es un elixir y el otro es un whisky. Uno se toma, y el otro se saborea. El Etiqueta Negra es para tomar (fuerte) después de las cenas. […] Y el Blue Label es para cualquier hora, lo podés tomar a la mañana, jamás te va a agarrar acidez ni gastritis ni nada […].

Which can be roughly translated as:

The best in the world? Blue Label by Johnnie Walker. […] I can drink a Johnnie Walker Black Label, but when something special happens, I drink a Blue Label. It is an elixir and the other is a whisky. One is meant to be drunk, and the other is meant to be savored. The Black Label is to be consumed (it's strong!) after dinner. […] And the Blue Label is for any moment of the day, you can drink it in the morning, you will never get heartburn or gastritis or anything […].

The interview was uploaded on YouTube^[5] by user @Cani95 on February 4th, 2020, garnering over 1.6 million views and 56,000 likes in three years. (shown below)

The interview was noted by the Pensado Para Televisión production team for its humorous value as soon as it aired on TV, being included in three different episodes of their TV show Televisión Registrada (TVR), which at the time was broadcasted on El Nueve (now it is known as Sobredosis de TV and it's broadcasted by C5N), once on May 14th, 2011 (two days after its initial broadcast),^[2] again on April 6th, 2013 (in the context of a report on addiction and pleasures);^[3] and finally on August 31st, 2013, which also included fragments of another interview with Basile (from Animales Sueltos with Alejandro Fantino, broadcasted on America TV on August 27th, 2013) also describing the Blue Label as the best whisky.^[4]

On April 22nd, 2023, TikTok^[6] user wayne748 posted an edited fragment of the Marca y Presión interview where Basile describes the Blue Label whisky, using Quarto de Hotel by Hareton Salvanini as the soundtrack for the upload. As of July 12th, 2023, the video has more than 23 million plays and 2.7 million likes. (shown below)

The popularity of the interview spawned an interest in the alcoholic beverage in Latin American countries, as videos of people opening the expensive bottle received millions of views on TikTok. For instance, a video (shown below) uploaded by pablo.cc_^[19] on July 12th, 2023, received over 3.2 million plays and 538,000 likes in two weeks.

Two parodies where a licensed Cars kids' cologne is considered by the Coco Basile imitator to be the best fragrance posted on TikTok by user @guish^[7] (shown below, left) on June 15th, 2023, and @equisk^[8] (shown below, right) on June 17th have garnered over 5.2 million and 7.2 million plays respectively.

A montage of a Luisito Comunica video where Luis Arturo Villar Sudek tastes the Black Label and Blue Label whisky bottles, with voice fragments of Coco Basile inserted in was posted by YouTube user @kamer748^[9] on YouTube, where as of July 12th, 2023, has a garnered over 333,000 views and 8,900 likes in three weeks.
