Daddy, Am I Your Baby? refers to a quote from a leaked prison call between rapper Young Thug and singer Mariah the Scientist in 2024, during Young Thug's then-ongoing RICO trial. The video of their prison call leaked on Twitter / X, TikTok and Instagram in January 2024, causing memes about the "Daddy, Am I Your Baby?" question which many thought was either sweet or cringe. In turn, memes were made that ironically used the phrase. Also, a TikTok photo slideshow trend emerged in which women texted their men "Daddy, Am I Your Baby?" to gage their response.

Origin

On January 24th, 2024, TikToker[1] @jumpsuitpablo posted a video that was part 1 of 65 pieces of leaked footage from a jail call between rapper Young Thug and his girlfriend, singer Mariah the Scientist, gaining roughly 3.3 million plays and 357,500 likes in five days (shown below). At the end of the footage, Mariah the Scientist asks Young Thug, "Daddy, am I your baby?"

Soon after the post, the video spread via reposts across social media, like a Reel shared by DJ Akademiks on Instagram[2] on January 24th, 2024, gaining over 128,000 likes in five days. Also on January 24th, the X[3] account of XXL Magazine posted the clip (since deleted).

"Daddy, Am I Your Baby?" started to gain meme attention in the following days, evident in a post shared by X[4] user @JumpShiveSlim13 on January 25th, 2024, who portrayed anger directed toward the question, receiving roughly 5,800 likes in four days (shown below).

Also on January 25th, 2024, X[5] user @LAYSAINTLAURENT tweeted, "Ask your man 'daddy, am I your baby?' and post his response," receiving roughly 54,000 likes in four days (shown below).

On January 27th, 2024, TikToker[7] @eriseamado posted a photo slideshow that started with a screenshot of LAYSAINTLAURENT's tweet, followed by a screenshot of her man's response (shown below). The photos received roughly 1.1 million plays and 130,000 likes in two days.

The video's leak was criticized by many online, including rapper Drake who commented on DJ Akademiks' Instagram[2] Reel on January 25th, 2024, starting with, "This gotta be some form of jail misconduct…" The comment gained over 9,000 likes in four days (shown below).
