It was originally performed by TikTok user @ratatouilleguy in early November 2025 and spread over the following months.

On November 15th, 2025, TikToker^[1] @humeantics shared an AI-generated video that showed a golden retriever rotoscoped onto a human dancing, set to the "I Left My Home" U.S. military cadence.^[2] Over 20 days, the video received over 1.2 million likes.

The base video that the dog was rotoscoped onto was shared a few days earlier by TikToker^[3] @ratatouilleguy on November 7th. He's seen in a classroom performing the dance with a POV text caption reading, "POV: danced for the class show and tell." Over one month, the video gained over 5.2 million likes.

On November 16th, 2025, TikToker^[4] @green.scream.memes shared a greenscreen template of the video that others could use as an exploitable. Over 19 days, the video received over 5,300 likes.

Several TikTokers used the green-screen template in the following days, placing the dog dancing in front of different backgrounds in video caption memes.
