The video's was first uploaded to YouTube in 2019 and the audio went viral on TikTok in late 2021 throughout early 2022 in comedy lip dub skits.

Origin

On March 11th, 2019, YouTuber^[1] just trash posted a clip from one of Doja Cat's Instagram Live streams, which took place on an unknown date, where she says, "stop being a faggot. Thank you." The video gained over 74,000 views in three months and was reuploaded numerous times over the following years, including an upload by YouTuber^[2] Ethan Teehee on November 6th, 2021, gaining over 1.6 million views in five months (shown below).

Spread

The clip became the subject of memes over the following years. On June 3rd, 2021, YouTuber^[4] NDR posted a video edit where Doja Cat wishes everyone a happy Pride Month followed by a cut to the clip, gaining over 227,000 views in 10 months (age restricted). Around November 3rd, TikToker @jiminlrv posted a now-deleted video consisting of Doja Cat saying "stop being a faggot, thank you," followed by the intro for her song "Kiss Me More." On November 4th, the TikToker^[3] posted a video wondering why so many people used the sound and explaining that it was deleted. Despite being deleted, the original sound is still available and has inspired over 30,000 videos since November 2021. Some of the most popular videos are skits where people act in a stereotypically gay way then snap out of it after Doja Cat says the line (examples shown below, left and right).
