About

Doo Doo Fart is a depiction of the SpongeBob SquarePants character Squidward edited to have a human's face overlaid atop the character's skin so that it appears black. The character frequently appears at the end of videos, much like a bait and switch meme, as a heavily distorted voice says, "doo doo fart," which causes people in the video to react in terror.

Origin

On September 6th, 2019, YouTuber 1marrycash k posted the earliest known version of the meme. Their video features a clip from the animated television series Dexter's Laboratory in which Dexter pleads with his sister Dee Dee not to push a red button. When she does, the character Doo Doo Fart appears in an impact font image macro. The post received more than 157,000 views in less than two years (shown below).

Spread

The following year, the meme became a popular video and image macro series. On January 13th, 2020, for example, Redditor Vectorwillyeetyou posted a Cool Bug Fact's meme featuring the character in the /r/coolbugfacts[1] subreddit. The post received more than 1,500 points (87% upvoted) in less than two years (shown below, left).

Several months later, on January 22nd, 2020, YouTuber The Sorry Sods edited the character into a clip from the 1990 comedy film Cry-baby. The post received more than 2.4 million views in less than two years (shown below, right).
