Entitlement Girl is an advice animal image macro series based on a photograph of a young woman posing in front of a colony of penguins and captions portraying her as a privileged daughter of wealthy parents.

Origin

On January 4th, 2013, Redditor lky1991 submitted a photograph of his friend posed in front of a group of penguins in Antarctica to the /r/pics^[4] subreddit, noting that she had traveled to every continent in the world before her 21st birthday (shown below).

The post was met with mixed reception on Reddit, garnering 2,800 upvotes, 2,035 downvotes and 860 comments prior to its archival, with the most upvoted comment thread scorning the woman for presumably having had wealthy parents who could financially support her journey around the world.

On the following day, Redditor kickinfatbeats submitted an image macro of the photo titled "Entitlement Girl" with the caption "Look at this life accomplishment / my parents bought for me" to the /r/AdviceAnimals^[1] subreddit (shown below). Before the post was archived, it accumulated more than 14,900 upvotes and 1,100 comments.

Also on January 5th, 2014, Redditor mrstody submitted an Entitlement Girl image macro joking about her parents buying first class flights to /r/AdviceAnimals,^[5] which gathered over 1,000 upvotes and 60 comments prior to being archived (shown below, left). Hours later, Redditor mrstody submitted another image macro characterizing the woman as a stereotypical "daddy's little rich girl" to /r/AdviceAnimals,^[6] receiving more than 2,100 upvotes and 140 comments before it was archived (shown below, right). On the same day, a Facebook^[2] page titled “Entitlement Girl” was launched with several derivative instances based on the same photograph.

The meme fell into obscurity until Redditor lky1991 resubmitted kickingfatbeats' image macro to /r/AdviceAnimals on May 20th, 2014, where it garnered upwards of 5,700 upvotes and 390 comments in the first 24 hours.
