About

"Es Hoy, Es Hoy" or "It's Today, It's Today" in English is a quote uttered by the character George Little from the 1999 American live-action/computer-animated comedy film Stuart Little. Alongside a frame from the movie depicting George running through his house to wake his parents, the quote is used as a reaction image and exploitable image macro to an above caption, usually to denote excitement for something that will happen soon.

Origins

The original scene used in the meme comes from the first Stuart Little movie, released on December 17th, 1999. In it, George Little is running towards his parents' room to wake them up, excited about the adoption of his brother. During the scene, the kid is repeating the "It's today, it's today" line used in the meme. On September 29th, 2012, YouTuber[1] stuartlittle2965 uploaded the scene, receiving over 451,000 views and 1,200 likes in roughly 10 years (see below).

A Spanish dubbed version of the clip, which also became a meme in Latin American countries, was uploaded on YouTube on October 10th, 2019, by RommyMoya[2], garnering 985,321 views and 7,100 likes in four years (seen below).

Spread

The earliest example referencing the original catchphrase appeared in a Pinterest[3] post on January 13th, 2017 (see below).

Es hoy... ES HOY!

A year later, the meme started appearing in Twitter memes about the excitement of events or achievements. For instance, on June 14th, 2018, Twitter[4] user @InvictosSomos posted a cropped image of the meme alongside a 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia banner. The tweet (below, left) received 11,800 likes and 6,744 retweets in five years. Another sports-related account also used the meme to celebrate the release of a new jersey for a football team. The post (below, right), uploaded by @TvMaquina[5] on July 17th, 2018, garnered 79 likes and 17 retweets in five years.
