About

Este es Mierdon refers to an old, ugly dog with immunodeficiency and Leishmania that became notable in Spanish-speaking meme circles on Twitter and elsewhere in October 2022. After a tweet was posted about adopting Mierdon, the "perro feo" became an exploitable. In English, "mierda" translates to "shit."

Origin

It's currently unknown where the picture of the old, ugly dog came from. However, it was shared on Pinterest ^[1] as early as September 9th, 2015. On October 4th, 2022, Twitter^[2] user jorgisimo__ tweeted a screenshot of a since-deleted tweet that read, "la gente be like: adopta no compres! las protectoras: este es Mierdon, tiene inmunodeficienciesy leishmania…" The tweet received roughly 2,200 likes in six days.

Later on October 4th, 2022, Twitter^[3] user FreeMomotrashh used the text from the aforementioned tweet but gave Mierdon a visual. Essentially, the tweet posed a situation in which someone says "adopt don't buy" but then the dog is named "Shit" and "has immunodeficiency and leishmania, and because he was abused for the first 10 years of his life and because of his dementia, he can't go near children or grandparents and needs to eat 7 times a day." Over the course of six days, the tweet received roughly 19,600 likes (shown below).

The text from the original tweet was paired with other images by Twitter^[4] uses on October 5th, 2022, however, the image of the dog named Mierdon is what trended en masse, being encorporated into exploitable templates starting on October 6th, 2022.

For instance, on October 6th, 2022, Twitter^[5] user jorgisimo__ compared Mierdon to Courage the Cowardly Dog in a tweet that received roughly 10,800 likes in four days (shown below, left). Later on October 6th, 2022, Twitter^[6] user sinprepu tweeted, "gente me ha salido este anuncio creo que mierdon se está haciendo famoso (people I got this ad I think shit is getting famous)," and attached a fake pop-up they'd received about Mierdon. Over the course of four days, the tweet received roughly 3,800 likes (shown below, right).
