Gwinie_the_Pooh Old Man Working Out Video Controversy refers to the backlash surrounding a viral video posted by TikToker @gwinie_the_pooh in which she secretly films an elderly man working out at the gym in order to make fun of him. In late January 2023, fitness influencer Joey Swoll, who earlier that month criticized TikToker Jessica Fernandez for accusing a man of staring at her at the gym, posted a video calling Gwinie out for making fun of the old man, inspiring her to delete her TikTok account.

On January 31st, 2023, TikToker[1] @thejoeyswoll posted a video responding to a now-deleted upload by TikToker @gwinie_the_pooh in which she secretly films an elderly man working out at the gym. Her video is captioned, "What was that" and is set to audio of Wendy Williams saying the same thing. In Swoll's video, he says Gwinie "should be ashamed of herself" for making fun of the way he works out and adds "we wonder why so many people want filming banned in all gyms." He then celebrates the video's commenters for defending the old man and asks her to apologize to the man, saying her gym should "kick her ass out" if she doesn't. The video gained over 1.9 million views in under 24 hours. He also posted the video to his Twitter[2] account @TheJoeySwoll, garnering over 107,000 likes and 2.8 million views in roughly the same span of time (shown below).

Online Reactions

The video spread online following @thejoeyswoll's response on January 31st, 2023, inspiring more people to criticize Gwinie on sites including Twitter and TikTok and celebrate Swoll for calling out bad gym behavior (examples shown below). Swoll's Twitter post also received numerous comments of support for the elderly man and criticism towards Gwinie, including a comment by Twitter[3] user @Underrated_Dom, writing, "I think a no cellphone gym would explode. You’re there to workout, get it done and bounce," garnering over 3,900 likes in under a day.
