Overview

Jake Paul vs. Soulja Boy refers to a possible boxing match between American YouTuber Jake Paul and Rapper Soulja Boy.

Background

On August 25th, 2018, Logan Paul faced off against fellow YouTuber Olajide "KSI" Olatunji for a sold out boxing match in Manchester, UK, while their respective brothers, Jake Paul and Oladeji "Deji" Olatunji, boxed each other in an undercard. The match was said to generate 11 million dollars.^[5]

On February 1st, 2019, Jake tweeted^[1] "I wanna box @souljaboy." The tweet gained 1,300 retweets and 17,000 likes in six days (shown below).

Development

That same night, Soulja Boy took to Twitter^[2] and replied, "boy I'll knock you out." The tweet gained 91,000 retweets and 416,000 likes in six days (shown below, left). On February 2nd, Jake Paul replied to Soulja Boy's tweet by tweeting ^[3] "yeah yeah & you probably think Tyson copied the way you punch." The tweet accumulated 500 retweets and 8,000 likes.

On February 2nd, Soulja Boy joined Jake Paul's Instagram Live stream. They discussed their income, wanting to fight each other and plans to do so. YouTube user Joe Karter uploaded the stream which gained 22,800 views and 300 likes in four days (shown below, left). On February 6th, TMZSports^[4] released an interview with Jake Paul which revealed that Jake Paul was "serious" about fighting Soulja Boy and that he would put down $20 million to fight him (show below, right).

In the days following the this new many YouTuber reported on the fight and most reached the consensus that Jake Paul and Soulja Boy were doing this for business reasons and not because they have anything against each other. DramaAlert's YouTube video reached over one million views in four days (shown below, left) and Adam22's gained over 100,000 in three days (shown below, right).

Confrontation Video

On February 28, 2019, Jake Paul uploaded a video entitled "JAKE PAUL CONFRONTED SOULJA BOY IN PERSON!! (Fight)" The video gained over one million views 62,000 likes and 2,400 in a day. The video features Jake Paul driving to Soulja Boy's house seal the deal on the fight. Paul reveals that his managers sent to his managers a contract. The video also features Jake Paul talking up his next music video entitled "I'm Single."
