Overview

Jenna Marbles YouTube Channel Termination Announcement refers to an announcement made by popular YouTuber Jenna Marbles in June 2020 following the George Floyd Protests apologizing for past problematic videos and saying she is taking an indefinite break from the platform. Following the announcement, many fans blamed cancel culture for her departure while others respected her decisions and recognized her growth.

Background

On June 25th, 2020, Jenna Marbles uploaded the video "A Message" in which she outlines the various problematic videos she had uploaded in the past including wearing blackface to impersonate Nicki Minaj, joking about gender stereotypes, using a racist Asian joke and body/slut-shaming videos. In the video, she explains that she has made all of the videos she is ashamed of private, calls her actions inexcusable and says that she will be taking a long break from YouTube and possibly never come back (shown below). The video gained over 3.7 million views, 534,000 likes and 9,500 dislikes in a day. Although there have been hashtags on Twitter like #JennaIsOverParty used to speak out against her, Jenna Marbles did not receive much pressure to leave the platform from viewers.

Jenna Marbles was one of the most genuinely good people on this platform and now she gets bullied off the site by mistakes that happened 8-10 years ago.. Who cares? These actions reflect in no way who she is and the content she makes today, anyone who watches her can see that. Some things were more leviant a few years ago – that's not to say it was right, but where the line is drawn from the past and today seems non existent. I thought the point was to learn from your mistakes and do better? We all have problems in our past, no one in the world is perfect.
This site will be filled with nothing but douchetubers who don't care, while the people who do, gets pushed out. So disappointed with the internet and how far things have gotten.
And of course these are the headlines as well..

Why Cancel Culture is bad reason #847

Seriously though, how many times are we gonna see this shit happen? People who have made mistakes in the past that they’ve either moved on from or learned better getting crucified by overzealous keyboard warriors.

And now the people who wanted her out will completely forget about this in a week and move on to the next sacrifice for the never-ending ritual that is cancel culture, thus helping nobody and accomplishing nothing.
