Say Sike Right Now is a reaction image macro of a screenshot from the 2019 Nintendo video game Super Mario Maker 2 of a blue piranha creeper plant next to the aforementioned phrase. It has been used to express a level of shock in which one hopes that newly learned information is a joke.

Origin

On April 29th, 2019, Twitter ^[1] user @nira3333 tweeted an image from the video game Super Mario Maker 2, which included an image of the Blue Pirahana Creeper Plant. The post received more than 490 likes and 200 retweets in three months (shown below).

Twitter^[6] user @Joel_Masada later took credit for the original image on July 18th, 2019, posting a screenshot of an April 29th, 2019 Discord post featuring the image (shown below). They wrote of the image, "I've seen this everywhere now, it even has a Know Your Meme page. I once uploaded it to Twitter and deleted it but yeah I made it lol. Never expected it to get popular. besides from this, i don't have any other proof but the date should be enough."

That day, Twitter^[5] user @garrettxxc tweeted the earliest available image of the blue creeper with the phrase "say sike right now" (shown below).

Spread

On July 10th, Twitter ^[2] user @DarkDawg219 tweeted a variation of the Time Traveler Conversation meme and added the image of the piranha plant. The post received more than 55,000 likes and 16,000 retweets in less than one week (shown below).

That day, Redditor ^[3] DarkDawgYT shared the meme on the /r/memes subreddit, where it received more than 24,000 points (93% upvoted) and 100 comments in less than one week.

On July 14th, Redditor^[4] Sturext posted the image with the caption "Me when my mom went shopping for 3 hours and she says we're going to another store after this." The post received more than 34,000 points (98% upvoted) and 110 comments in 24 hours (shown below, left). Over the next week, others online shared the meme (example below, center and right).
