Background

On December 15th, 2023, Daily Caller^[1] published an exclusive article about a leaked gay porn video depicting an unidentified U.S. staffer having anal intercourse with another man in Senate room Hart 215 (The Judiciary Room) (snippet shown below, left). On the same day, Daily Caller correspondent Henry Rodgers, who authored the article, posted and linked it in an X^[2] post, with the post garnering over 3.5 million views, 2,800 reposts and 3,000 likes in one day (shown below, right).

According to the report, the video was originally shared in "a private group for gay men in politics." The article contained a censored version of the video, and an uncensored version of it was leaked and shared online later.^[3]

Later that day, X^[4] user @adamjmoussa posted a snippet from the Daily Caller article, commenting, "The phrase 'we are so back' gets thrown around a lot these days, but…" The post (shown below) received over 2,000 reposts and 21,000 likes, assisting the spread of the news.

The spread of the news and the video online was quickly followed by memes and viral reactions across the internet. For example, on December 15th, 2023, X^[5] user @EvenDerekThomas posted a meme referencing the incident that received over 1,100 reposts and 12,000 likes in one day (shown below, left).

Later that day, X^[6] user @inherentvibes posted a That's Disgusting. Where? meme that received over 290 reposts and 2,800 likes in one day (shown below, right).
