About
Evolution Can You Give Me Wings refers to exploitable webcomics humorously illustrating a story behind the evolution of various species through an anthropomorphic dialogue between a member of the said species and a DNA molecule. It is a spinoff subset of the "Mom Can You Give Me Money" meme.
Origin
On October 1st, 2018, a comic was submitted to the Paleontology Coproliteposting Facebook[2] group featuring the small dinosaur Compsognathus asking evolution (depicted as a DNA molecule) to provide the organism with a pair of wings for "balance", leading it to turn into the avian dinosaur Archaeopteryx capable of flight (shown below).
Spread
On October 10th, Tumblr user Brian[1] reposted the original dinosaur comic. On October 15th, Redditor TheEntry posted a version of the comic in which a Dodo disappears after addressing the double helix to /r/me_irl[4] (shown below, left). That same day, Redditor lucidali posted a comic in which a Limulus decides not to adapt with evolution (shown below, right). Within 48 hours, the post garnered more than 2,700 points (98% upvoted) and 70 comments on /r/me_irl.[5]
On October 16th, a variation of the comic featuring an image of a human appendix was submitted to /r/me_irl[6] (shown below, left). On October 17th, Redditor Thenwhyareyouwhite submitted a whale-themed variation of the comic to /r/me_irl[3] (shown below, right).
