About

Fuck Nigga Free or FNF is a slang term meaning you're single and no longer with or dating a man, often implying the man is a fuckboy, cheater or bad boyfriend. The term was popularized by the April 2022 song "FNF (Let's Go)" by HitKidd and Glorilla, which went viral on TikTok in May that year and helped spread the term. Though it shares the same acronym, this slang is unrelated to the video game Friday Night Funkin'.

Origin

The exact origins of the term "fuck nigga free" are unknown, but it has been used in its relevant context since at least 2009. The first relevant use of the term on Twitter[3] was posted on March 27th, 2009. On February 19th, 2017, Urban Dictionary[2] user fortunecookie21617 defined "FNF" as "fuck nigga free," writing:

Abbreviation for "Fuck Nigga Free", to no longer be associated with a whack pimp or shitty boyfriend and be with:
1) a better pimp, mostly someone who provides you with all your necessities, takes care of you and protects you (unlike a whack pimp that will just use your money to bump other bitches or buy a chain he doesnt deserve)
2) a better boyfriend, one that loves you for who you are and doesnt disrespect your hustle, or take advtange of you for your money. (And moreso someone that doesnt see you dancing forever)
