Gamora Putting on Makeup refers to a reaction video series based on a behind-the-scenes video of actress Zoe Saldana applying makeup for the film Avengers: Endgame. The video has been used for a series of jokes about the preparation practices anthropomorphized inanimate objects that are also green.
Origin
On April 28th, 2019, Zoe Saldana uploaded a video of herself applying the makeup for her character Gamora for the film Avengers: Endgame to Instagram. [1] The post received more than 1.1 million views and 6 million views (shown below).
Spread
The following day, Twitter [2] user @TheHollyhype tweeted the video with the caption "When you finna save the world, but you heard Star-Lord might be showin up." The post received more than 40 retweets and 165 likes in three days (shown below, left).
Following the tweet, others began sharing the video and adding captions about anthropomorphized green objects. On April 30th, Twitter[3] @itsjcerm tweeted the video with the caption, "Pickles right before getting removed from a hamburger." The post received more than 3,000 retweets, 18,000 likes and 7 million views in two days (shown below, center).
The following day, Twitter[4] user @jaboukie tweeted, "lettuce getting ready to give people e coli." Within 24 hours, the tweet received more than 14,000 retweets and 85,000 likes (shown below, right).
On May 1st, Twitter[5] published a Moments page on the video, as did the entertainment news website the AV Club.[6]
