Gender With Your Mom or Oh Yeah? Sex and Gender are the Same Thing? refers to a catcphrase and copypasta reading, "Oh yeah? Sex and gender are the same thing? That's funny, I don't recall having gender with your mom last night." The earliest viral iteration of the phrase was posted to X, formerly Twitter, in August 2020 and spread over the following years, often through image macros attaching the phrase to various characters.

Origin

The earliest known iteration of the phrase "gender with your mom" was posted by X^[1] user @blewdsulfurr on May 7th, 2020, writing, "one of the many differences between gender and sex is the fact i didnt have 'Gender' with your mom last night." The earliest viral iteration was posted by X^[2] user @oldmikeycore that year on August 19th, writing, "Gender and sex are the same thing? how come i was having gender with your mom last night," garnering over 154,000 likes and 20,000 reposts in three years (shown below).

Spread

On September 8th, 2020, Redditor u/ot49 posted an image macro to /r/okbuddyretard^[12] featuring the phrase over an image of Donkey Kong, garnering over 46,000 upvotes in four years (shown below). On September 9th, Facebook^[3] user Chauncey Extreme reposted the image macro, garnering over 2,200 shares and 1,200 reactions in three years. The meme was reposted to /r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns^[4] on September 26th, garnering over 2,400 upvotes in the same span of time.

On December 8th, Redditor u/MrTheGoose posted a new meme to /r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns^[5] featuring the phrase, garnering over 2,100 upvotes in three years. On January 16th, 2021, Instagram^[6] user trans_memes_ posted a version of the meme that gained over 13,200 likes in two years (shown below, left). On February 25th, u/ASIANJACKFROST posted a version of the meme to /r/okbuddyretard^[7] that gained over 5,700 upvotes in two years (shown below, right).

On June 1st, X^[8] user @makeupaguy posted, "guy who had gender with your mom last night." garnering over 11,000 likes in two years. On April 2nd, Instragram^[9] user mememanmyles posted a trollface meme using the phrase, garnering over 25,400 likes in two years (shown below, left). It was originally posted to /r/dankmemes^[11] that same day by u/Mizanur1214, garnering over 65,000 likes in the same span of time. On September 6th, 2023, Redditor u/sparkysparkyboom_mf posted a version of the meme to /r/okbuddyretard^[10] that gained over 690 upvotes in a month (shown below, right).
