The Geometry Dash Oval Buff or Arshadow Buff is a series of memes, including simulacrum memes, about a black, oval-shaped shadow buff added to the course KOCMOC UNLEASHED, a harder version of the course KOCMOC, revealed by Geometry Dash content creator Arshadow, who verified the track, in a March 2026 video. The video inspired memes about the black oval buff, including memes that add the black oval to other games, tracks and memes.
Origin
On March 11th, 2026, YouTuber[1] Arshadow, known for his Geometry Dash content, posted a 68 percent progress run-through of the stage KOCMOC UNLEASHED, an Extreme Demon stage that was controversially verified by Arshadow in January 2026.[2] In this run-through, the stage has a buff that appears about 22 seconds into the video. The buff, which makes the course more challenging, is a black, slanted oval that covers a significant portion of the track. The video gained over 266,000 views in about two weeks.
Many of the top commenters on the YouTube video called out the buff and timestamped it, inventing funny names for it.
Spread
Memes about the oval buff in Geometry Dash spread over the next few weeks on sites including Reddit, X / Twitter and TikTok as it garnered attention on social media.
On March 14th, 2026, Redditor Comfortable-Bee2996 posted a meme to the /r/GeometryDash[3] subreddit that adds a line of ovals in the Devil Vortex Saws pattern over a chess board, writing, "what to do in this position?" garnering over 2,300 upvotes in about a week.
On March 15th, Redditor MrBruhChel made a post to the /r/geometrydash[4] subreddit titled, "I decided to buff my new song," including a screenshot of a music production track with the same oval shape, garnering over 2,600 upvotes in a week.
On March 22nd, Redditor weston_games69 posted a meme to the /r/Terraria[5] subreddit sharing an edit of a screenshot of the game Terraria that features a slanted black oval over the screen, titled, "A fair way to increase difficulty for Master Mode." The post gained over 3,700 upvotes in a day.
