About
Glaceon is the name of an Ice-type Pokémon that evolves from Eevee when given an ice stone or leveled up next to an ice rock in the Pokémon franchise of games. Glaceon, one of several different Pokémon that can come from Eevee, has remained one of the most popular ones outside of Vaporeon, with a lot of Fan Art being made of the character.
Origin
Glaceon was released as the newest eeveelution along with Leafeon in the fourth generation, Diamond and Pearl, evolving after being near an ice rock in the over-world or after an ice stone was used on it. Early promotion footage for the games show Glaceon, but not in every region where commercials where played. On April 1st, 2009, the YouTuber Japancommercials4u[1] uploaded the original commercial for the games that was broadcast in Spain, being the first time that Glaceon was seen when the commercial first aired in 2007 (shown below).
Spread
After the release of the game, Glaceon quickly became a popular addition to the Eevee family. It appeared in episode 542nd of the official anime, in which the previous character May returned to the story to show Glaceon and use it in a battle against the current season character Dawn, releasing on April 28th, 2008 in Japan. On December 15th, 2023, the official Pokémon YouTube channel[2] uploaded the battle portion of the episode to YouTube Kids (shown below).
In the following years, Glaceon appeared to be very popular with art content creators and animators. On July 11th, 2020, the YouTuber Captain Cinnamon[3] reuploaded a viral art video in which a Glaceon is animated trying to create mac and cheese. This video, however, was proceeded by the June 28th, 2022 3D rendered animation video by Patafoin[4] which copies the original premise but adds in more details using Glaceon's model from Pokemon Unite (shown below, left and right).
