About
Glaggleland is a fictional amusement park that's portrayed akin to creepypasta content. Glaggleland's symbol is a yellow smiley face, present in most of its imagery such as Glognuts, which are smiley-shaped donut cakes served at the park. Glaggleland memes typically center on the rides (which are dangerous and creepy), multiple words and phrases that use the prefixes "glog-" and "glag-" (such as "glognuts," "glognauts" and "glogged"), a Glaggleland disaster and the difference between two smileys (Giggler and Enphoso) with one being good and the other being evil. Glaggleland purportedly started in a private Discord server, however, Glaggleland memes and videos first surfaced on social media in 2021 on Instagram, spreading to YouTube, Reddit, TikTok and the GIF-sharing website Tenor in 2022 and 2023. Glaggleland is also known in Roblox.
Origin
In correspondence with Discord user Cloakerson, Glaggleland originated within a since-deleted Discord server in June 2021. However, months prior, in December 2020, discourse within the server about a character named "Enphoso" surfaced, predating Glaggleland. Enphoso surfaced due to an alleged misreading of a meme reading "Emojos Phone" on behalf of Discord user Thorn. Thereafter, Enphoso became an in-joke in the server (screenshot shown below).
On March 9th, 2021, Discord user zleeb sent a then-contextless message to the sever about user Thorn, showing an image of smiling cakes and a proposed caption of "thorn glognuts" (shown below, left). On April 1st, 2021, the Instagram[1] page glaggles posted an image of smiley face-shaped cakes with "thorn glognuts" written in the top caption similar to an iFunny GIF caption format. Over the course of two years, the meme received over 120 likes and is currently the first known Glaggleland content to appear online (shown below, right).
Spread
The Instagram[2] page glaggles continued to foster the Glaggleland aesthetic and lore going into early 2021, posting more content akin to the amusement park in the months that followed. For instance, on June 3rd, 2021, the Instagram[3] page glaggles posted a video that had text overlay reading, "The Rides:" and showed multiple clips of creepy, amusement park rides that looked dangerous. Over the course of a year and a half, the video received roughly 5,300 views and over 570 likes (shown below). According to Discord user Cloakerson, the video (and the Instagram page as a whole) was adminned by members of the Discord server. Additionally, the video without the "The Rides:" text was surfaced from TikToker[4] swoosh_swish, who posted the original on May 21st, 2021, earning roughly 3.8 million plays and 939,100 likes in the same timeframe.
Soon after the aforementioned video's upload, on June 12th, 2021, "Glaggleland" was namedropped on Twitter for the first time by Twitter[5] user Gronkygronky. On June 29th, 2021, YouTube's first-known Glaggleland video was uploaded by the YouTube[6] channel glaggleland, titled, "glaggleland top 10." The video received roughly 2,900 views and over 100 likes in a year and a half (shown below).
On July 26th, 2021, the /r/glaggleland[7] subreddit was created, whereby in January 2023, it had amassed roughly 1,900 members. Glaggleland videos continued to surface going into 2022, like on March 16th, when the Instagram[8] page glaggles posted a follow-up to their original "The Rides:" video that received roughly 17,700 views and 2,400 likes in 10 months (shown below). Additionally, the video was a collab post with the Instagram[9] page enphoso, and thus, the "Enphoso vs. the Giggler" lore emerged.
On TikTok
Glaggleland content started to surface on TikTok in late 2022. For instance, on November 7th, 2022, TikToker[10] electrochem.rizztips posted an original Glaggleland video that showed a Glaggleland "Automotive Festival," gaining roughly 52,300 plays and 10,700 likes in two months (shown below, left). On January 4th, 2023, TikToker[11] glaggleguy posted a video showing a glognut smiley getting crushed by someone's hands, gaining roughly 110,600 plays and 20,600 likes in five days (shown below, right).
