About
Good One Manny! is a comic book panel from the children's book Diary of a Wimpy Kid, where the protagonist's family can be seen humoring the youngest child "Manny" but ultimately becoming tired of his jokes. The formal is used to criticize overdone memes and grew popular on Instagram, X, and Reddit in 2022 and 2023.
Origin
The book Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, written by Jeff Kinney, was published on October 12th, 2009. Protagonist Greg Heffley's younger brother Manny attempts to entertain the family on a drive with inane and childish jokes that grow increasingly nonsensical over time (seen below).
Some early iterations of the meme were shared on Reddit in 2019, typically only using the initial panel of Manny telling a joke.[1][2]
The earliest known meme using both phrases of Manny's joke telling to convey that a joke has been overdone was posted on X[3] by @engiarc on February 2nd 2021, gathering over 34,000 likes in two years (seen below).
