Rodrick Screaming In Joy, also known as Rodrick Screaming "Cocaine and Fortnite," is an image macro series using a photo of actor Devon Bostick as Rodrick Heffley in Diary of a Wimpy Kid screaming in joy with two fists up and a grey shirt that says "Rock and Roll High School." In 2024, a meme creator added top and bottom Impact font captions, reading in all caps, "COCAINE! AND FORTNITE." Going into May 2024, the meme was recaptioned en masse, becoming an exploitable format.

Origin

In 2012, promo photos were taken for the third Diary of a Wimpy Kid film called Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days in which Rodrick Heffley (played by Devon Bostick) was wearing a grey Ramones shirt that said "Rock and Roll High School" on it.^[1] One photo (shown below) shows Rodrick screaming with two fists raised.

On December 14th, 2023, Instagram^[2] user @a.thousand.apologies posted an Impact meme that used the photo reading in all caps, "WHEN THE FUNCTION GOT A FENT CART," receiving over 61,200 likes in five months (shown below). Currently, it is the first known meme to use the Rodrick Screaming In Joy image.

On April 16th, 2024, X^[3] user @imbenbeal tweeted a meme that used the Rodrick Screaming In Joy image with top and bottom Impact font captions, reading in all caps, "COCAINE! AND FORTNITE," receiving over 150 likes in a month (shown below, left). The post is currently the first discovered upload of the meme.

On April 17th, X^[4] user @BrendanDaGawd reposted the meme, receiving over 39,000 likes in a month. The viral repost inspired recaptioning in quote retweets, like one shared by X^[5] user @absurdistbong on April 17th, referencing Ethel Cain (shown below, right).

More viral iterations persisted in May 2024, like one shared by X^[6] user @The_Pequod_ on May 27th, 2024, referencing white wine and Neil Young, gaining over 10,000 likes in a day (shown below).
