About
Gork is a misspelling of Grok, the native AI model on Twitter / X. In late March and April 2025, internet users began posting memes about "Gork" after jokes about people asking Grok to explain things began to gain traction on the platform. Prominent tweets about Gork include one that reads, "@gork make this studio gibli" and "@gork is this true." An automated parody @Gork account was then launched on April 30th, 2025. The seemingly automated account mimicked Gen Z slang and responded to all users who tagged it on the site, and repeatedly engaged with Elon Musk in early May 2025.
Origin
On March 30th, 2025, Twitter / X[1] user Sashin45 shared a selfie with the caption, "@gork make this studio gibli." The post was a misguided attempt to participate in the Studio Ghibli AI trend in which people used the GPT-4o Image Generator to convert real photos into Ghibli-esque cartoons.
The tweet was reposted on March 20th by X[2] user @reinabugs, who gathered over 140,000 likes in a month.

Spread
On April 6th, 2025, X[3] user SuperMarioIre wrote, "make this studio gibli @gork," seemingly in reference to the aforementioned "
gork make this studio gibli" tweet. The post gathered over 22,000 likes in a month.

Tweets in which people jokingly tagged @Gork instead of @Grok continued into April 2025. These tweets mocked Twitter / X users who tagged the platform's built-in AI chatbot to explain tweets, as seen in the Grok Explain This meme.
On April 3rd, 2025, X[4] user @bostodm replied to a #BanksAreOutOfMoney post by user @richard_normal, writing, "@gork is this true." The post, which included the Tony Stark Jarvis Commands meme as their profile picture, came to be reposted in subsequent weeks, as seen in an April 16th, 2025, Bluesky[5] post that gathered over 1,000 likes in two weeks.

Twitter / X Parody Account
The parody X[6] account @Gork was created on April 30th, 2025. The account began replying to all tweets that tagged @gork, similar to the original Grok AI bot. However, @Gork's replies are more humorous and rife with Gen Z slang.
The account posted a meme that read, "@gork is this true," on May 2nd and gathered over 9,000 likes in three days.

Elon Musk began interacting with the @Gork account in early May, and changed his profile picture and username to match it. On May 4th, 2025, Musk tweeted, "sup @gork changed my pp to urs wdyt," prompting a back-and-forth between him and @Gork.[7]

Other internet users reacted to Elon Musk seemingly co-opting jokes about @Gork with an automated parody account he personally promoted. On May 3rd, 2025, X[8] user @M1das_OW2 posted a screenshot of @Gork interacting with Musk, writing, "jokes over pack it up," and gathering over 100,000 likes in two days.
