Green Goblin Chasing Spider-Man is an image macro meme featuring a screenshot from the 2002 superhero action film Spider-Man in which the villain the Green Goblin chases Spider-Man on their glider. Many have commented on and made memes about the appearance of both characters' buttocks in the image.

Origin

On May 3rd, 2002, the film Spider-Man was released in the United States.[1] In the film, the Green Goblin attacks Spider-Man (portrayed by Willem Dafoe and Tobey Maguire, respectively) on his glider at a Macy Gray concert (clip below).


On February 18th, 2020, Tumblr [2] user walrusofdoom shared a screenshot of the Green Goblin chasing Spider-Man with the caption "Hey who wants to see the best frame from the original Spiderman movie." The post received more than 49,000 notes in less than one month (shown below).

About 10 days later, Redditor Expecto_nihilus posted an object-labeling version of the image on the /r/funny subreddit (shown below, left).

On March 1st, Redditor[4] Sumyjay8 shared the post on the /r/tumblr subreddit, where it received more than 4,000 points (99% upvoted) in less than two weeks.

Days later, on March 9th, Twitter [5] user @RottingVale posted the image with the caption "This frame is making me have a breakdown in the bathroom." The post received more than 88,000 likes and 16,000 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below, center).

That day, Twitter[6] user @tonydwagner shared the image with the caption "you don’t need a glider when you got a wagon." The tweet received more than 12,000 likes and 2,500 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).

On March 9th, Twitter[7] published an Events page on the meme.
