Hamichi is an original character by Derpixon depicted as an anthropomorphic hamster girl. Hamichi was first shared by Derpixon in December 2023, inspiring fan art and other fan content over the following months, including rule 34 images and animations.

Origin

On December 4th, 2023, Derpixon posted a character sheet to X^[1] for an OC named Hamichi, a hamster-human girl described with the phrases, "has a bright future ahead of her, dies in two weeks, likes snacks." The post reads, "She either gets her own animation or straight to the OC graveyard." The post gained over 28,000 likes in three months (shown below, censored).

On December 6th, Derpixon posted a censored version of the character sheet to TikTok,^[2] garnering over 2 million views in the same span of time. On December 16th, the animator posted an animation of Hamichi waving to X,^[3] writing, "Hamichi lives 🐹," garnering over 16,000 likes in the same span of time.

Spread

Hamichi began to inspire fan content over the following months. On December 16th, 2023, X^[4] user @Orpice_kun posted a piece of fan art that gained over 6,400 likes in three months. On January 22nd, 2024, X^[5] user @rosaryink posted a piece of art of a girl giving Hamichi a kiss on the cheek, garnering over 2,400 likes in two months (shown below).

On January 25th, TikTok^[6] cosplayer @elle.chu posted a video where she dances while dressed like Hamichi, garnering over 119,000 views in two months (shown below). She also posted the video to X,^[7] garnering over 1,500 likes and a million views in the same span of time.

On February 20th, Derpixon made a post to the /r/Derpixon subreddit and X sharing a work-in-progress scene from a Hamichi animation.
