Happy Guy On A Bus Showing Sad Guy His Phone is a version of the Two Guys on A Bus meme depicting the happy man sitting next to the sad man and showing him something on his phone's screen. The meme first appeared online as early as 2021 and was popularized on sites including Instagram, Reddit and X / Twitter in February 2025 as an exploitable meme format in which the content on the phone is edited in each iteration of the meme.
Origin
On December 12th, 2021, Redditor u/PeterPorky posted a meme template to the subreddit /r/FreshMemeTemplates[1] consisting of an edit of the Two Guys on A Bus meme format showing the happy guy on the bus sitting next to the sad guy and then him sharing something on his phone. This is the earliest known user to post the meme, although it may not be the original.
The earliest known version of the meme that is not a template was posted by Tumblr[2] user crazy-brazilian on March 26th, 2022, depicting the happy guy showing the sad guy 1 Guy 1 Jar, garnering over 1,600 notes in three years.
Spread
The meme became increasingly popularized over the following years, seeing a significant increase in virality and usage in early 2025.
On December 22nd, 2024, X[3] user @thirteenkei posted a version of the meme in which a scene from Arcane is shown on the phone, garnering over 44,000 likes in two months.
On February 7th, 2025, X[4] user @GhostWuffle posted a version of the meme editing an image of Hatsune Miku and Kagamine Rin onto the phone, which was reposted to the subreddit /r/Memeloid[5] the next day, garnering over 7,000 likes on the former and 2,000 upvotes on the latter in a week.
On February 10th, Redditor u/Full-Future1189 posted another version of the meme about Arcane to /r/arcane,[6] garnering over 5,700 upvotes in four days. On February 13th, X[7] user @toplessoncology posted a version of the meme in which the happy guy shows the other an episode of House, garnering over 13,000 likes in a day.
That same day, Threads[8] user @felipwhisky posted a version of the meme in which the happy guy shows the sad guy an image of a cat with its tongue out (known as the BLEHHHHH :P Cat meme), garnering over 4,800 likes and 240 reposts in a day.
