Hat Clasp is a pose in which a person touches their hat while posing for the camera popularized in Summer 2019 by Instagram models and celebrities.
Origin
On July 2nd, 2019, Faima Bakar coined the term "Hat Clasp" in a Metro UK[1] article claiming the pose was made popular by Nicole Scherzinger, Vanessa Hudgens, and Emily Ratajkowski.
Spread
On April 14th, 2019, Vanessa Hudgens posted a photo of herself to Instagram[2] in which she holds her hat on her head (shown below, left). The image gained over 970,000 likes in three months. On June 21st, 2019, Nicole Scherzinger posted a similar photo the Instagram[3] which received over 97,700 likes in a month (shown below, right).
By July 2019, various media outlets including PopBuzz,[4] Sunday Herald,[5] Times of India[6] and The Times UK[7] all claimed that the hat clasp was the Summer's top Instagram pose.
