The comment, which is inspired by a July 2022 TikTok upload, became popular on the platform in July 2022 as a way of trolling posters, similar to the crop / storytime and recipe for brownies spam comments. The video's original sound also became popular and is often set to footage of LeBron James' video game skins in Fortnite and Multiversus.

Origin

On July 29th, 2022, TikToker^[1] @vexbolts posted a video of a Fortnite character with the LeBron James skin dribbling a ball then doing Fortnite dances, garnering over 367,000 views in a month (shown below). In the video, the TikToker says, "How will this affect LeBron's legacy?"

The phrase "how will this affect LeBron's legacy?" or "how is this going to affect LeBron's Legacy?" spread across TikTok over the following weeks as a spam comment, also used in video descriptions. On August 1st, 2022, TikToker^[2] @ben5i8 posted a video showing clips of LeBron using the original sound captioned, "How will this affect lebrons legacy," garnering over 143,000 views in two weeks (shown below, left). On August 3rd, TikToker^[3] @tastyhusband posted a video using footage of LeBron in Multiversus using the sound, garnering over 988,000 views in two weeks (shown below, right).
