Huggie Wuggies

About

Huggie Wuggies is a catchphrase sometimes referring to hugging in a friendly manner, though online, it is often used as slang for sexual intercourse. Appearing first in a parody copypasta, it became widely popular following a peculiar voice-over video in late 2018.

Origin

The earliest instance of the slang was found in a parody of the Navy Seal Copypasta posted to Reddit on February 16th, 2017 and titled "A lady who keeps, replying to every Trump tweet about 5 times."^[1] (shown below, bold added for emphasis).

If only you could have known what huggie wuggies your little “tweetie weetie” was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your mouthy wouthy. The pasta itself and its title are a reference to Jimmy Kimmel writer Bess Kalb, whom members of the 4chan pol board have mocked for her constant stream of negative replies toward tweets made by President Donald Trump. /pol/ antagonized her by posting public photographs from her and adding captions in the style of a patronizing mother scolding her toddler, with recurring infantilizing expressions such as "sweetie" (which became Kalb's nickname) and the infamous "huggie wuggies." While no archive can be found prior to the Reddit post, many others were archived on 4plebs as early as May 2017.^[2]

Spread

On October 21st, 2018, YouTuber dakooters posted a video parodying panels from manga "tomo-chan wa onnanoko" with original voice-over by them and guest korreva, reusing many memes such as UwU and Notices your Bulge (shown below). In it, "Huggie Wuggies" was used as an invitation for sexual intercourse by the female protagonist. The video gained over 2.5 million views.

The popularity of the video led to more parodies reusing the same audio (examples shown below).

ItalianNinja's Video

On April 16th, 2019, YouTuber ItalianNinja posted a video following the parody trend started by dakooters (shown below). This time, it was using Source FilmMaker to feature the Team Fortress 2 red Scout getting attacked by a female character made from the body and attire of AI Kizuna mixed with the face of a wolf. The video accumulated to over 5 million views in a little more than a year.

Quickly, "Huggie Wuggies" became associated with this new wolf-girl character and favored by the furry community, leading to a slew of fan art (examples shown below).
