Origin

Firebringer was a musical put on by StarKid Productions and focuses on people in the prehistoric era studying the invention of fire. The show ran from July 6th to August 7th, 2016 in Chicago, Illinois.[1] A recording of the production was uploaded to YouTube on January 1st, 2017, where it gained over 4.6 million views. In the show's opening number, "We Got Work to Do," the character Zazzalil sings the lyric "I don't really wanna do the work today" (shown below).



Spread

On June 14th, 2017, YouTuber Sebastian Andras uploaded the moment by itself, gaining over 4 million views in four years (shown below, left). The video was later reposted to Reddit's /r/videos[2] by alex_dlc, where it gained over 1,500 points. On June 26th, 2017, YouTuber lungthief posted a clip of the The Book Of Mormon cast recreating the video, gaining over 500,000 views (shown below, right).



The clip grew popular on Tumblr, where it was popularly either used as a copypasta or reaction GIF. For example, on September 17th, 2017, Tumblr user salazar-slanderin[3] posted it as a copypasta, gaining over 1,500 notes (shown below, left). It also grew popular on TikTok. There, the sound was posted by user @ciaraconnick, and has been used in over 1,900 videos[4] (example by Roxy D'Olivera shown below, right).
