I Just Looked at Your Profile I Didn't Realize You Were a Lady refers to a copypasta which appears to be made in parody of comments lonely gamers leave to women when they discover they play video games. The copypasta uses Tips Fedora type language and grew popular on Reddit and Twitter after the username in the copypasta, which hints that the copypasta is likely satirical, was edited out.

Origin

The origin of the copypasta is unclear. The earliest known post of the copypasta was submitted to /r/copypasta^[1] on April 11th, 2019, but the post was deleted. It was reposted the following day to the subreddit. It reads:

"Oh I'm sorry. I just looked at your profile I didn't realize you where a lady. (And a beautiful one at that) I try my best to respect women. Especially women in gaming. As a matter of fact now I actually do agree with you. I'm sorry. Maybe you could even add me on PSN and we can play some games together. We could play GTA, overwatch, Minecraft, maybe even a little COD. add me xXxChildMolesterxXx. Sorry about my name. My cousin made it a while back. He is not a good person like me and does not carry my values.

The copypasta may be a parody of a similar copypasta that circulated in 2015 in which a gamer asks a girl to play Left for Dead 2 with him (shown below).

On July 23rd, Reddit user kar99k^[2] posted the copypasta in /r/teenagers in a picture of a girl posting her face. Some users there were unaware it was a joke. The following day, the comment was posted to /r/justneckbeardthings^[3] with "xXxChildMolesterxXx" removed, making it appear more sincere (shown below, left). After the post, it became a more popular copypasta, gaining over 5,400 points on July 25th.^[4] The copypasta began spreading on Twitter as people added characters who might be saying the phrase. For example, Twitter user DrCullenPhD posted the copypasta with a character from Fire Emblem: Three Houses (shown below, right).
