About
I Outrank You, In This Scenario is a catchphrase derived from a custom Super Mario themed van depicting NES-era Mario saying to Bowser, "That's a ma girl," and Bowser saying to Mario, "I outrank you in this scenario," the letters of which are combined when the van door opens to show Mario next to Princess Peach, saying, "Thank you, Mario." The van was originally posted to Reddit in November 2017 and was reposted to X / Twitter in October 2024, inspiring memes that attribute the quote to Bowser in different Mario Bros. games.
Origin
On November 4th, 2018, u/TenOunceGames made a post to /r/forza[1] sharing two images of a custom Super Mario van based on the original NES game, one with the door closed and one with the door open. The van, with its door closed, shows Bowser to the left protecting Princess Peach and throwing axes at Mario, saying, "That's far enough mash bro." Mario says, "I'll shank you, this ain't a trio." With the door open, Mario and Peach are shown face-to-face, Bowser and Mario's text combining to make Peach say, "Thank you, Mario." The post gained over 2,700 upvotes in seven years. Many commenters poked fun at Bowser and Mario's text for being nonsensical and forced.
On November 7th, u/TenOunceGames made a post to /r/gaming[2] titled, "I fixed the Mario van. Thanks for the feedback." This time, Bowser and Peach have been swapped to the right. Now, Mario's text reads, "That's 'A 'Ma Girl," and Bowser's text reads, "I outrank you, in this scenario." The post garnered over 87,000 upvotes in seven years and was met with similar criticisms and jokes about the text.
